Apparently there can be two

|
highlander_dvd.jpgSci-Fi Wire is reporting that there is going to be a remake of the classic film Highlander.

So much for "there can only be one."

Iron Man co-writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway will be writing the updated version of the movie. I haven't seen Iron Man yet, but all the reviews have been positive, so I will try to reserve judgment until further news of this comes out.

eric_stoltz.jpgI'm really getting turned on by the casting of the Battlestar Galatica prequel Caprica. While I don't mean that to sound so dirty, they have cast two pretty hot actors.

A few days ago Sci Fi Wire reported that Esai Morales will be joining the show. Now they are reporting that Eric Stoltz is going to be playing a wealthy computer engineer. They are both incredibly sexy, and terrific actors.

When I first heard that the prequel was going to be more of a night time soap, I was a little reluctant to want to see it. That's changing as the casting announcements are being made. Of course I was a little turned off by the idea of a re-imagined BSG until I saw that Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell were staring in the mini-series.

The producers are doing a great job of attracting really talented people that you wouldn't necessarily associate with Sci Fi. I think that that has been one of the strengths of BSG. I'm now hoping that it carries over to Caprica.

Frack Me

|
Tonight's Battlestar Galactica couldn't have been better. Within the first four minutes the show had me yelling "Frack Me!" at the TV. Thankfully it only turned out to be one of the final five thinking about what he wanted (or was afraid he was programmed) to do to Adm. Adama.

jamiebamber.jpgAs we all know from last seasons finale Starbuck is back. While Lee "Apollo" Adama [pictured] welcomed her back, his father and Pres. Roslin are suspicious of her sudden return from the dead. I can't say that I find most of the crew's reaction to her coming back shocking. How do we know that she isn't the final human Cylon?

The four Cylons that make up the final five, are trying to understand how they didn't know who/what they were. It will be interesting watching them as they try to deny their Cylon nature and to try and hold on to their humanity. Will they cause lots of havoc this season while the humans make the final push to find Earth?

Finally, where do I start with the Giaus Baltar story line? I'm glad they had him shave his beard. He started off tonight looking little too Christ like. Although he did perform a J.C. worthy miracle by curing a little boy. That certainly cemented his position as a prophet of the "One True God."

For anyone that hasn't watched the latest incarnation of BSG, I would urge you to TiVo this season. Don't watch them just yet. Log into Netflix and rent the first three seasons, and watch them.

The one thing that sets BSG apart from other shows is its willingness to tackle tough topics. They have dealt with such issues as abortion, stolen elections, war, and religion. Almost everything touched upon is a reflection of the times we currently live.

BSG did not disappoint me tonight. I think we're in for a wild ride on the way to Earth.

Happy Frackin' Friday

The end is nigh for Battlestar Galactica. The new and final season starts in a little over one hour. I'm going to be a total geek and camp out in front of the TV tonight to watch it. I just wish my cable company offered the Sci-Fi channel in HD... I'll probably post some thoughts on the show after it's over tonight.

This looks to be a great season of the show. So say we all!

Sad News for Geeks

Gary Gygax, has died today. Gary, who was co-founder of D&D, was 69 at the time of his death.

Thanks to Gary, my friends and I had an escape from the loneliness and isolation we felt living in small Baptist run Texas town. Later, while in the Navy, D&D allowed me to find people I could relate to and make friends.

Thank you Gary for creating a way for me to be whoever I wanted to be in my youth. You will be missed.

Jabba the Hutt Would Love This

|
han_solo_desk.jpgThis would be the perfect desk for Jabba the Hutt, if he actually had need of a desk.

There's nothing like Han Solo frozen in carbonite to complete the office decor of an evil CEO. I'm sure it will instill fear in all of their underlings.

Two Things That I Love Together Again

|

I am such a nerd... I love watching the MythBusters on the Discovery Channel. I also enjoy watching Ask a Ninja, I think it is one of the best video podcasts around.

So imagine my delight when I came home and found the two of them together waiting for me on iTunes. Sure they've been together before, but I still found it very enjoyable.

Found a New Social Site

|

It seems that there are new social networking sites popping up every day. The first one I was aware of was MySpace. Then there was Facebook. After that I discovered Last.fm and Twitter. I quickly got tired of all the spam on MySpace, but still have profiles at all the other sites. Along with a couple of other sites.

Now there is a new social site that is geared towards yes/no questions. It is called wis.dm. I'm not sure how popular it will become. It has good integration with Facebook, but so far there is not a decent way to have it work with a blog. Other than a cut and paste bit of code that you can use anywhere.

I went ahead and set up a profile and thought I would give it a try. Since they do at least provide some code to ask questions somewhere other than the main site, here is the first one I asked.

Sulu Fathers a Hero

|

Star Trek's Sulu, George Takei, will be guest staring on NBC's Heroes. He will play Masi Oka's father. I think the only thing I would enjoy more is if they had Nichelle Nichols playing the mother of Leonard Robert's character. Maybe now that Heroes has been picked up for a second season they can find a part for her.

<psychobabble>As a gay man do I like Heroes and other comic book super heroes because I can identify with being different? Just a random thought.</psychobabble>

I'm really looking forward to his appearance. In some ways I think this is opening the door a little wider for GLBT actors. As far as I can tell, this will be the third openly gay actor portraying a straight character on television. Thanks to viewers accepting Neil Patrick Harris, T. R. Knight, and now George portraying three different types of hetro men, I think it will help other GLBT actors in deciding to come out of the closet.

Blee-bop vs. Mickey

|

Being home of the International UFO Museum & Research Center isn't enough for Roswell. The planning director for Roswell, NM, Zach Montgomery, is saying Roswell would be the perfect place to build an alien themed amusement park. This makes sense given the conspiracy theories that still persist about the UFO that crashed in 1947.

How many people would want to go in the middle of summer? I know how miserable it can be here going to Six Flags and it's hotter than hell in July and August here in TX. It would be pretty bad in the middle of a desert during summer.

Who am I trying to kid? The geek in me would go visit an alien themed park just about any time of the year. I just started vacation today, and would gladly go if they were already open.
