A Little Under the Weather

After a busy week, I decided to go to the Fort Worth Zoo with my friend, her husband and daughter last Monday. I think that three of us must have picked up some type of bug, and it hit me hardest of all.

On Wednesday my friend and I both were complaining about sore and scratchy throats. I would have been happy if that was all it was. The next day I ended up calling my friend and she had to take me to the emergency room.

Turns out breathing is not something that is optional for us frail little humans.

After some chest x-rays and the doctor listening to my breathing, he declared I had pneumonia. What really scared me was when they took me in for a CAT scan. The nurse told me afterwards they just wanted to make sure I didn't have a blood clot in my lungs. They took tons of blood, gave me a couple of shots, and two different antibiotics by IV and then asked if I wanted to go home or stay the night in the hospital.

What amazes me is how differently things affect different people. For example my friend still just has a sore throat. Her husband has a scratchy throat and a cough. There there's me... I'm the one that ended up almost spending a night in the hospital.

I'm blaming some snotty nosed little kid for making us sick. Of course I should probably take some responsibility for being a smoker (sure I've talked about quitting, but so far no success). This of course has really made me think harder about not smoking any more. Especially since out of the three of us that came down with something, I'm usually the healthiest one. My friends immune system is still a little out of whack from going through chemo when she had breast cancer. Her husbands immune system is not that great due to diabetes.

After being off work most of this last week, I'm feeling better now. I'm still have some problem with breathing, but the doctor gave me an inhaler that is helping out with that. This is the first time I've had something like this happen. I'm not really looking forward to this ever happening again. Hopefully I'll finishing coughing up this gunk over the next day or so. I'm ready for this next week to be over. I'll be on vacation and will just hang around the house.

New Blog to Check Out

You know how there are times when you forget that the internet is a public forum accessible by anyone. Well that happens to me occasionally. Sometimes I think that only members of the GLBT community are the only people that have any interest in reading my blog.

Thanks to the Jim, owner of Straight, Not Narrow, I was reminded that we have supporters in the straight community. He sent me an e-mail asking for a link exchange. After checking out his blog, I agree that a link exchange would be good.

According to his blog he is a member of PFLAG and Equality Maryland. So we are looking at things from a straight v. gay perspective, we both seem to want equality for everyone in our nation. That's a good thing no matter which perspective you look at.

Battle to Save the Foreskin

When I walked down to the Capital Building yesterday I was gobsmaked. The fact that there was a few protesters sitting out on the lawn with signs didn't surprise me. What better place to try and make a encourage a change in our laws. What surprised me was seeing signs encouraging an end to circumcision.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm far from being a prude. For example, when I lived in Oklahoma City, I once took part in a protest to try and keep an adult novelty store from being closed down by the religious right. I guess I just expected any protesters in front of the Capital Building to speak out for something more important. You know, like trying to put an end to the Iraq war.

What really got my attention was the sign that said "Circumcision is Torture." Isn't that a bit melodramatic? Maybe if I could remember being circumcised shortly after birth I would agree with that statement. A friend of mine decided to get circumcised as an adult, and after the local anesthesia wore off he did complain about some pain, but not enough that I would consider what he did torture. He gladly did it for his girlfriend, and after things had healed he said he didn't have any regrets.

I'm now looking forward to my next trip to DC just to see who is protesting.

From the National Mall

Well I made it in one piece. I went to the Air and Space Museum.

Taking some time to try out the food a Market Inn Restaurant on a recommendation of a friend. When I get done here it will probably be time for me to head back to the airport.

DC looks like it is a great city to visit. I'll have to plan a vacation and spend a couple of days here.

My Return...

Sorry for the long absence with no warning. I decided to take a break from the internet last month. If it didn't involve checking my bank statement, or paying bills I pretty much tried to ignore the web.

Any way just thought I would kill some time waiting for a flight. I'm heading to DC for the day and have about an hour before flight time.

I'm typing this on my phone so going to keep it short. I am not really planning on doing much while in DC. I'll probably go check out the National Air and Space Museum, eat lunch, and then come home.

Will post more later. I might do a photo entry or two while I'm out and about...
