World AIDS Day

Today is World AIDS Day, and Bristol-Myers Squibb is donating $1.00 to the National AIDS Fund for every virtual candle lit at Light To Unite.

Sure $1.00 doesn't sound like much, but at last count 325,662 candles have been lit. It takes just a moment to do something that can help make a difference.

Federal Chief of AIDS Research Blasts Drug Companies

Finally a doctor comes forward to says what I've felt to be true about HIV vaccine research. The only thing that I would have to add to his statements, is that there is more profit in treating disease. I agree that drug companies would turn a nice little profit by making an HIV vaccine that they didn't have to spend research and development money on. But wouldn't they loose their profits from the multitude of meds HIV patients currently need to take to keep the virus in check?

I feel that we sadly live in a society where current the current medical community is more focused on treating a problem versus curing it. Look how long we've been waiting for a breast cancer vaccine.
